Ritenour High students capture their lives in 'Autobiography of a Teen'
The University of Missouri St. Louis Public Policy Research Center's Mel Watkin found inspiration in artist and activist Wendy Ewald for a series of photography exhibits that put cameras in the hands of everyday citizens. Evald says she is dedicated to teaching photography as "a tool of expression"

Watkin is photography project director for the center and has introduced St. Louis to dozens of organizations that the center works with, from schools to markets to neighborhood organizations. Instead of documenting the center's work herself, she teaches people photography and turns them loose.
In the most recent exhibit, students from Ritenour High School participated in photography classes and captured their lives from a wide range of angles, all in the form of portraits.
The exhibit will be on display on UMSL's campus in the PPRC Photography Gallery. On May 29, a duplicate of the exhibit will open at the St. Louis County Library's St. Charles Rock Road Branch.
A handful of galleries are also opening exhibits.
