Rise & Shine for a Cure: 108 Sun Salutations
St. Louis Ovarian Cancer Awareness will host its fourth annual Rise & Shine for a Cure: 108 Sun Salutations event this Saturday. In partnership with area yoga studios, the organization is sponsoring a morning of yoga and other activities to raise money for ovarian cancer research.
The event will take place at the World’s Fair Pavilion in Forest Park from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is open to the public, with no prior yoga experience required. Twelve yoga teachers will lead participants through 108 Sun Salutations — a 12-breath sequence of poses meant to link body, breath and mind.
In addition to the yoga exercises, the morning will include guest speaker Andrea R. Hagemann, an assistant professor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at Washington University and live music from Bradford Smith and Friends. Complimentary snacks from Whole Foods, massages, acupuncture, henna tattoos, and raffle tickets will also be available.
Members of the Mitchell James salon will also be present at the event between 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. to collect gently used clothing, bags, and shoes for its resale store, Maverick Project Resale, which will donate 20 percent of its proceeds to SLOCA.
Tickets for Rise & Shine for a Cure cost $35 is purchased before Saturday or $40 at the event. T-shirts cost $20, and all proceeds go to SLOCA. For more information or to register or buy a T-shirt online, go to sloca.org.
