The Cards/Cubs rivalry extends to local animal shelters, as the APA and the Anti-Cruelty Society of Chicago battle out in a fundraiser in which the losing animal group has to name pets for the other starting lineup: Support Adam Wainwright being adopted in Naperville.

For one evening, the Humane Society of Missouri will be all about the big dogs -- of the fashion world that is. Gucci, Michael Kors and Kate Spade are just some of the names whose purses and pumps might be snagged by supporters (who also can meet some of the animals available for adoption.)

Asking for contributions for a child’s college education is legal in Missouri. But not right. Because a parent should help his or her children in almost any way they can,  such obligations must be kept far away from a politician’s public responsibilities — it is not hard to figure out which one would lose if they conflicted.
